The roads are not closed for the event and the Highway Code,
Traffic Regulations, Road Signs and Traffic Lights are still applicable.
Highway Code for Cyclists
1. Objective: We are trying to raise as much money as possible for
Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
Thank you for your kind support, we do appreciate what you are doing.
2. Sponsorship: Using the Sponsorship Form, try to get as many sponsors as possible: See notes on "Raising Sponsorship"
3. Your Bike: Check your bike before the Bikeathon day to make sure that tyres and brakes are in good condition and that it is generally road-worthy. If you care to take your bike to
Bike Doctor's 102A Southchurch Avenue (York Road), Southend, SS1 2RR, before the event and they will carry out a Safety check. Telephone 01702 600069 to make an appointment.

4.Help: We depend on a lot of help to run a Bikeathon. As you have agreed to ride, would any of your family or friends like to help either before or for a period on the day - if so please phone Terry Joyce on 01268 785674 or email terry@southendbikeathon.co.uk
1. Car Parking: Entry to Shoebury East Beach is via George Street SS3 9ABThere will designated parking at Shoebury East Beach Car Park. This is a pay and display car park, however if you place the parking permit enclosed in this pack, in your car, you will not have to pay. Marshals will be present and we shall be grateful for your cooperation. If possible please ride to the event. See Maps
2. Arrival: Please be at the Bikeathon 15 minutes before your start time but not earlier. Your Control Card will be marked and you will be asked how much sponsorship money you expect to collect after the Bikeathon. You will then be directed to the start.
3. T-Shirt Wear your free Bikeathon T-Shirt which you will receive in the post.
4. Check In,Late Entry and Information Desks:Will be Located in the Start area.
5. Start Time: In the interests of road safety cyclists will start in small groups.
6. Control Card: The Control Card allows you to participate in the Bikeathon and will be marked by marshals at the Start, at Checkpoints and at the Finish to certify how many miles you have covered. Remember to keep your Control Card as proof that you took part in the Bikeathon. This will help you to collect your sponsorship money
7. The Bikeathon: You will be directed both by signs and by marshals around the route. Marshals will also be located at all the Checkpoints, where they will mark your Control Card, and at major intersections on the route. The last start time will be 10.30am and the route will be closed down (signs will be removed and marshals will go off duty) by 2.30pm.
8. SAFETY: Follow the HIGHWAY CODE, obey all Traffic Regulations, Road Signs, Traffic Lights and Police instructions. Never cycle more than two abreast and only then when other road users will not be obstructed.
Report any incidents to a Bikeathon Marshal.
You Must wear your number on your back.
ROSPA recommend that Parents ride behind their Children.
Please wear a cycle helmet.
9. Cycle Repairs are able to be carried out at Shoebury East Beach, Mucking Hall Farm & Great Wakering Health Centre. There may be a charge for these by the cycle mechanics. There will also be a puncture repair kit with each checkpoint manager available for your use.
1. Collect Sponsorship Money: Experience has shown that it is much easier to collect money immediately after the event. So may we ask individuals and Group Leaders to please collect sponsorship money promptly. Trophies are awarded to those raising the most money in each category and who have paid in by the 31st October 2010.
